PhD student Cassandra Sgarbossa was invited to talk about gut health and psychiatric illnesses for a virtual Q&A session with Eastside Secondary School’s Gr.11 Biology class. Students asked a variety of questions such as:
- Are there ways to boost your mental health through bacteria?
- What kinds of food affect your mood?
- Can poor gut health lead to future psychiatric illnesses?
- How does a student get involved in research?
- Can you take bacteria (through biological samples) from a healthy individual and transplant it to someone with depression?

Thank you to Mrs. Lammers (teacher) & the entire Gr.11 class for such interesting questions!
